Worldwide

Frits Vogel is internationally renowned.

In France he is a celebrated artist, who is praised for his versatility. His work now hangs around the world, with private individuals, but also in offices, churches and public buildings.

Color explosions

His oil paintings are explosions of color. Almost architecturally constructed, the flamboyant colors unroll into buildings, flowers, plants, water, sun, rocks and skies. The use of color and the way of working reveal cobra-like influences. Vogel describes his work as abstract-impressionistic, balancing on the edge of the figurative.

Vogel turns color and light to his hand, making his canvases look different with the passing of the day. This is due to the special technique with which Vogel applies the paint to the canvas. Seemingly meaningless details suddenly acquire meaning.
Africa

Part of his work unmistakably betrays African influences. In his urge for adventure, in the sixties and seventies he was part of an expedition to the people of the Dogon in Mali. He wanted to see how people live elsewhere in the world, interested in their culture, their myths and their customs. This has resulted in a beautiful collection of primitive African art with great archaeological and ethnological value.

The people of the Dogon, under which he lived for a long time, live at the foot of a rock wall in present-day Mali. He visited the hard-to-reach and remote Dogon villages and lived and lived among the Dogon people. He was captivated by their culture, by their architecture and by their images and masks. He did not get out of it anymore.

Overpowering

In his paintings and sculptures the wondrous structures of the Dogon and their predecessors the Tellem, time and again come forward, their mud cube-shaped storage sheds with thatched roofs, their forms of living, integrated into a bizarre and wondrous landscape. On returning from one of his travels in the sixties, he declared: "I lived in such a wonderful world, a world so pure, a confrontation with ideas, behind which you can find a special philosophy of life, that I was totally overwhelmed. The people of the Dogon taught me inner satisfaction. "

Bali.

After more than 35 years of living and working in the beautiful nature of the Auvergne in France, he begins a new phase in his life. He moves his studio to the mystical island of Bali, where he begins a new artistic phase in his life. He lives and works there among his Balinese friends on that beautiful and inspiring island of the Gods.

This exceptionally talented artist, Frits Vogel, continues to amaze us by his relentless energy, his independence from trends in art and his constant search for artistic innovation without compromising his distinctive style. He is and remains a very dynamic and productive, contemporary artist.
